Timeless Honor Mirrors of Time Book 3 edition by Amber Daulton Romance eBooks
I found this book to be captivating, especially after reading the first book in the series,Timeless Beginnings. In the first book, Jaye's grandmother, a runaway bride in the early 1700s, falls into a vortex and ends up in 1963 in the Bolivian sand flats. In this book, her granddaughter travels to the sand flats, falls in, and travels back in time to meet the groom her grandmother deserted on their wedding day ... who villagers believe murdered his young wife. The descriptions of England in 1735 were so well done, and the struggles of Jaye to adjust to life three centuries before without giving herself away were clever and fun. The misunderstood hero reminded me a bit of Jane Eyre's Rochester with a dash of Mr. Darcy and Heathcliff thrown in. A very enjoyable read.Tags : Timeless Honor (Mirrors of Time Book 3) - Kindle edition by Amber Daulton. Timeless Honor Mirrors of Time Book 3 edition by Amber Daulton Romance eBooks Reviews
In Amber Daulton's first novella, Timeless Beginnings, we followed Leonora, who had fled from her new husband in 1725 and taken refuge in a cave where a cortex had sent her in the future to Bolivia in 1963. Now, in Timeless Honor, we meet her granddaughter, Jaye, who doesn't believe that time travel exists. Therefore, she leaves on vacation to Bolivia to find answers. However, the cortex is still live and Jaye is sent back to 1735 where she lands in the same village where her grandmother had lived. Unexplained events happen and she stumbles right in the arms of Lucas, a charming and protective lord. What will happen next? Remember, Jaye is a woman from the future; she is headstrong, outspoken, and beautiful. Will Lucas be able to resist to her fiery attitude? The moment they meet, sparks flare all over! As they spend time together, they will share secrets and find answers that will forever change their lives.
Let yourself be swept away into the cortex with Jaye, and enjoy her journey through time! This novella kept my interest until the very last page. I could not put it down! I really had fun reading this short sweet novella.
* “I reviewed this book for Books & Benches”. There were no expectation for a review of any kind. All opinions are my own!
I wanted to like this book and it seemed to start off ok, but then it took a nose dive in the latter half which was juvenile and rushed. Too many one line explanations, which should only happen occasionally in a book, but this was the only way the author wrote we found out the 'why' in a one line phrase after each statement.
This was the third in the series, and I didn't read the previous books, so I can only comment on this one but I do know that I definitely won't be reading one or two now. Spoiler alert-
We are given a very brief insight into Jaye and why she is where she is and then the time travel occurs. I liked that the author chose to touch on the loss of modern conveniences, and how she had Jaye hold her tongue/watch her language instead of behaving like a 21st century women which would have made her seem like an out of place hooligan.
Things fall apart pretty quickly when an awkward and insulting proposition is agreed upon. "I wish to court you.” Wth? One paragraph ago he said he'd never marry and he'd let his cousin inherit a rotting estate and then what we discover is he meant 'make her a mistress' which is so not the same thing. Did the author not know what courting meant or was Lucas the clueless one?
"She’d only slept with two men in her life—not counting Lucas—and they took her infatuated heart and crushed it to pieces." Kind of important details that probably should have been elaborated on so we'd understand her reluctance to sleep with Lucas in the first place and why she might think that this would be different and/or better.
"Though she didn’t plan to stay in 1735 forever, she desperately wanted to sample the local cuisine" really? This is worth mentioning?!
Ok, so what really made me hate this book was the sudden appearance of a random dude who gave Jaye a magic mirror. So lame. I could go on and on but I'll stop.
This could be a good outline for a book, but It needs major reworking.
This novella is my first introduction to the Mirrors of Time series. I loved this story! I was captivated by the character of Jaye Ramsey immediately and then to learn she is a librarian with a love of English history and I was ready to cheer! What sheer elation to have a librarian portrayed as such a strong, confident, woman! Kudos for the delight of this character portrayal to Amber Daulton!
As I share my joy in reading this novella, I'd also like to preface these comments by saying that I'm generally not a reader of time travel or fantasy stories so I have little awareness in the way of comparison. That said, I also loved the time travel element to this story. I was captivated and immersed with Jaye's "travel" through time. My reviews do not include spoilers so I won't become more specific but the time travel didn't feel fabricated. As a reader, I went with her on the journey and the experience was wonderful. The story stirred my imagination and I found the reading to be enchanting and fun.
I must add one further comment that I have noticed in reading multiple titles by Amber Daulton. I would like to share that reading the descriptions from the story settings to the character descriptions to different situations or events is one of the exquisite joys of reading stories by this author. The highlight of my comment is that the descriptions are her natural style of writing so it is not that the author has merely added a collection of adjectives to elongate the sentences. I would instead share that every word and each sentence brings meaning to the story so that the story settings become richer, the character descriptions become more vivid, while still allowing the situations and events to flow seamlessly. The descriptions capture each of the reader's senses giving the purest delight of one's own vibrant imagination as he/she reads the story. Here are a few of my favorites from this story...
"...his dark hair reached his shoulders and curled around his face like a wild mane."
"He straightened to his full height of six feet, pushed opened the heavy inn door and led her inside the spacious building."
"A chaotic mess of brambles, creeper vines and herbaceous shrubs blocked the narrow path into the garden after several feet, but colorful daises, violets and wildflowers still thrived in the dense thicket. Wild hydrangea bushes and ferns surrounded a dilapidated gazebo yards away, stink trees brushed against a boarded-up barn in a nearby pasture and fields that once provided food now nursed weeds."
"His legs almost gave out as he reached level ground but the blood in his veins pumped like a furious river and he hurried down the winding, lighted path."
