STORIES FROM THE LIFE OF JESUS BY HIS MOTHER Edited by Christopher Antony Meade eBook Christopher Antony Meade Mary The Mother of God

when we think of the birth of Jesus, we generally think of a manger scene, all calm and quiet. I imagine, however, were we to look into Mary’s diary, it would be a lot more like this:

“I am just exhausted. Coping with a new baby is a stress at the best of times, but you try doing in in a cave with cows and a donkey breathing down your neck.”

and

“I sent one of the shepherds up the hill to politely thank the angelic host for their serenade, but, ‘Would they mind finishing now, as I had a baby that needed some sleep’.”

We get the mother’s-eye view, from birth to death to resurrection, of one of the most influential people who ever lived. In human form and likeness, Jesus supposedly lived among some very interesting people, according to the author. A grandmother who kept company with questionable people, a cousin (John) who couldn’t hold his wine, and various other true-as-life-or better characters make their way into Mary’s diary.

True or not, these memories are in turn hilarious, tragic, and touching. And never once is there anything disrespectful written in these pages. This is what truly made me love this book.

I suspect that somewhere above, the heavenly hosts are laughing their haloes off from reading Mr. Meade’s wonderful book.

STORIES FROM THE LIFE OF JESUS BY HIS MOTHER Edited by Christopher Antony Meade eBook Christopher Antony Meade Mary The Mother of God Reviews

It's always challenging to write a good story that freely touches the centre part of the religion. There is only a fine line between a great story and a blasphemy and Mr Maede is handling this cleverly. Story about Jesus Christ from his mother's viewpoint is told freely but keeping the key points of the gospel. It is a fun version of the greatest story ever told. Nice reading.
This grabbed my attention from the beginning. At first I was not sure if it was sacrilegious or not. I think this was a great way to get contemporary readers to learn and think about Mary & Jesus. It puts a humorous twist with modern philosophies for readers to understand. It is well written and witty.

Criticism There are repeated punctuation mistakes and it is left aligned rather than justified. This is petty, but it distracted me slightly. Not enough to stop reading though!
Many will find this book irreverent and disrespectful. I found the irreverence refreshing, reminding us that Jesus was a human being and so was his earthly mother. In my opinion, a Jesus without a sense of humor would hardly be worth knowing. It's a quick read, and nobody claims it's a new gospel. It's a great prompt for punching new windows in old stereotypes to let some fresh air blow through.
As with any book that devotes itself to the Christian religion, Mr. Meade's novel is bound to step on a few toes. Mary, the Mother of Christ, is written as an independent woman who has no problem telling the reader how hard it was to be second fiddle to the main focus of the Immaculate Conception. It's a parody chock full of satire, humorous exchanges, and laugh-out-loud moments that will make your funny bone pray for relief. Five Stars.
This is a great idea for a story told in a way that readers will understand better than some of the Bible writing. You have to remember that this is a story told with a bit of sarcasm and a more modern attitude about the life of Jesus. I thought the author did an amazing job combining what we know with what wasn't explained before. What would the actual story have been if it was told by a writer from today without all the thees and thou's thrown in? Read the book and see! I think you will enjoy it!
Authors who make a parody of God and Saints are often misunderstood to be disrespectful, or worse, atheists. But I think it is actually completely opposite of that. Some authors love and believe in God so much that they want to put themselves in the shoes of God and Saints. Don't we all wish to be close to our object of our affection by getting into their head? Such an act is no way disrespectful because love is full of positive feelings including respect, while `lust' is void of respect.

The author, Mr. Meade has been widely raved for his brilliant handling of humour with sarcastic and objective manner, but he is very empathetic inside. We all have felt sorry for Joseph who had to give and give, so it was gratifying to see Joseph's sacrifice got rewarded by the author at the end of the story. The author must be close with the women members of his family, as his Saint Mary is a woman of substance instead of the traditional wood like Saint. This is one comedy with warm heart that makes you want to read repeatedly. It is one book I turn to when I need to pick myself up.
Christopher Antony Meade's comic irony does it once again. STORIES FROM THE LIFE OF CHRIST BY HIS MOTHER is a tongue in cheek satire of Jesus Christ's life as told by his mother Mary. Short, quick, and witty, the story will make you smile, rub your head, and at times say something to the effect of, "I wonder if old Christopher can get away with this and not cause an uproar in the overly zzealous religious community?" If you enjoy satire that is not caustic, realize nothing in life is as noble as we might wish it to be, and need a few laughs and chuckles, give the story a read - it will only take about thirty minutes of your time. If you want a few hours of wit pick up Christopher's novel - THE ZOMBIE, THE CAT, AND BARACK OBAMA - you might even have a few laughs on yourself.
